Today, a complex system is often divided in many separate sub-systems written in different languages running on different platforms. Communicating between them is not always as easy as it seems. XML-RPC, SOAP, RMI and proprietary protocols are different techniques to bind them together. But they all have advantages and disadvantages. Come listen to why, how and when to use the different techniques.
